Maid steals diamond ring, slaps 62-yr-old owner

HOWRAH: Baby Devi, a domestic lend a hand working at 62-year-old Sharda Rathi's house in Howrah's Golabari, was arrested on Thursday for stealing a diamond ring value Rs 1.10 lakh from Rathi's dressing desk drawer. Earlier, when Rathi may no longer to find the hoop and asked Baby about it, the lend a hand slapped her and left her house. Police later recovered the hoop from Baby.

"The maid and the jeweller, who allegedly bought the ring from her, have been arrested," said Bhavna Gupta, ADC of Howrah City Police. The jeweller has been known as Ananda Saha. Rathi said she took off the hoop and placed it inside of a drawer earlier than going to the washroom. Just as she entered the washroom, she noticed the maid get into her bedroom to scrub it. Later, when she came out and opened the drawer, she found the hoop missing.


Soon, Rathi known as other individuals of her family and informed the maid she sought after to look her. At this level, the maid allegedly slapped her earlier than fleeing the spot. Rathi's grandson Anurag lodged a grievance towards the maid with Golabari police.


Police launched a raid and found Devi in her relative's house in Liluah. She confessed selling the hoop to Saha, a Liluah jeweller, for Rs 80,000.
