PATIALA: Former Rajpura MLA professor Balwant Singh kicked the bucket at a medical institution in Chandigarh following prolonged illness. He used to be 82.
Balwant, who hailed from Hashimpur village of Rajpura division in Patiala, joined politics after resigning from his executive activity as a faculty instructor in 1968. He remained active in celebration actions and helped in formation of industry unions in Rajpura. Later, he selected to contest elections and gained from Rajpura meeting seat on CPI(M) price tag and served as a legislator from 1980 to 1985.
In 1988, he turned into the state president of CITU. He used to be additionally appointed as state secretary of CPI(M) in 1998 up till 2008.
"Professor Balwant Singh was the leader of masses since he foreyed into politics after resigning from his job. He was always active among the trade unions and used to raise their issues with the governments," CPI(M) district president Dharampal Singh mentioned.
Professor Balwant Singh had shifted his base to Chandigarh after he used to be appointed as state secretary by means of the celebration. His cremation will happen on March 24 in Chandigarh.
