BHUBANESWAR: In a setback to the BJD forward of the imminent elections, veteran chief Raghunath Mohanty resigned from the main club of birthday party as well as the submit of vice-president on Sunday.
Though Mohanty has cited ‘non-public reasons’ to hand over the birthday party in his resignation letter, assets said he used to be dissatisfied with BJD’s resolution to not give him ticket from Basta meeting constituency, from the place he were elected to the state meeting 5 times in a row since 1990.
Sources said Mohanty is in contact with BJP leadership and would possibly join the saffron birthday party soon and battle the imminent meeting polls.
Though BJD is but to announce applicants for Basta below Balasore parliamentary constituency, assets said Subasini Jena, wife of sitting Balasore MP Rabindra Jena is also fielded from the seat.
Addressing the mediapersons right here, Mohanty, a founding member of BJD, alleged that BJD has deviated from the ideals of Biju Patnaik.
“It is unhappy that the birthday party is now being run by way of a gaggle of other people with vested passion. There isn't any inner democracy in the birthday party. It has left out many founding individuals like me. I felt that the birthday party did not want my service anymore,” Mohanty said.
On his subsequent course of action, the former minister said he would soon take a choice after consulting with his supporters.
Mohanty had on Saturday met BJD president and leader minister Naveen Patnaik and resigned as chairman, Odisha Lift Irrigation Corporation.
The five-time MLA from Basta used to be got rid of as BJD vice president in March 2013 after he used to be arrested in a dowry torture case slapped by way of his daughter-in-law Barsa Swony Choudhury.
Despite his strong organizational energy in Basta, he used to be denied birthday party ticket in 2014 meeting election.
On March 16, closing 12 months, he used to be appointed vice president and birthday party’s observer for Dhenkanal district. It came a 12 months after his son and estranged daughter-in-law introduced their reunion.
