Selection of Bharathiar University syndicate member not done in seniority basis, faculty members say
COIMBATORE: The appointment of a brand new member to the syndicate of the Bharathiar University lately has brought about ripples within the college’s circles with a piece of school contributors questioning the appointment because it used to be now not completed consistent with seniority norms.
The head of the dept of verbal exchange and media research of the college, P E Thomas, used to be selected as the syndicate member within the professor cadre, instead of Saravana Selvan, the head of the dept of English, whose period as the syndicate member had ended.
Faculty contributors from the college said this used to be now not consistent with seniority norms, as there were other professors who should had been selected for the syndicate on a seniority basis.
When contacted, college officials said the verdict used to be taken completely by the governor’s place of business and now not by the college. Officials said professors from college departments which have now not been represented within the syndicate can be most popular.
“We sent the identify of a senior professor from a division which has now not been represented within the syndicate, to the governor’s place of business. But they requested us to send a listing of senior professors from unrepresented departments. The governor’s place of business selected the syndicate member, and we didn't have any say within the process,” the official said.
The college has 5 representatives within the syndicate, 3 professors, an associate professor and an assistant professor. Currently the 2 college representations – that of the associate and assistant professors – are vacant and wish to be crammed, said college sources.
The college’s syndicate meeting is scheduled to be hung on Friday.
