Shirole eyes term-II, Bapat also in race

PUNE: Sitting BJP MP Anil Shirole’s aspiration for a second consecutive term within the Lok Sabha from the town might not be a clean affair with a piece of the party prepared to present district guardian minister Girish Bapat a chance on the Centre.
Senior BJP leaders said although a few days had been left for the announcement of the election schedule, the party was once still unsure about the candidature and had a “lengthy record” of LS poll price ticket aspirants from Pune.

Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Kakade was once also within the race for the BJP price ticket. Sources said Kakade seemed to be nearly out of the race “with the party high command giving him a cold shoulder”.

A senior BJP chief said, “Shirole can be the most obvious choice for the BJP high command because of the file margin (three lakh votes) with which he defeated his nearest Congress candidate within the 2014 LS polls. We will paintings to protected the BJP’s victory, regardless of the leadership’s selection of candidate.”

Shirole admitted that he has expressed his need to contest the approaching election on the BJP price ticket. “I were given a chance to constitute my party for the remaining 5 years within the Lok Sabha.
