Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Corporation seems to be indifferent against stray canine menace around the city.
One of the badly-affected areas of canine menace within the city is RK Naidu Layout at Venkittapuram, where more than 100 households are dwelling.
Around 10-15 stray canines are discovered within the layout which has six streets.
S Radha, a resident, stated, “One of the streets within the layout – Middle Street – has 8 pups and 4 canines. Children and elderly persons are in reality scared to walk on the street as canines stay barking and chasing folks. It is difficult to accompany them till the end of the road every time they want to pass out.”
She stated her youngsters have been refusing to step out of their space on my own as there have been numerous cases where youngsters who have been playing at the streets, have been chased through the canines.
President of RK Naidu Residents Welfare Association Okay Banumathi stated ever since two folks have been bit through canines, senior voters have stopped going for walk at the streets fearing canine bite and they are too old to run away from them.
The canines, which used to lie at shady puts, would pop out once solar sets and barks all the night, she stated. Territorial fights do take place between canines at least once in an afternoon or two.
Explaining that vegetable and fruit distributors had refused to go into the layout, Mahi Ravichandran, some other resident stated the placement is worse for the supply boys because the canines don't forestall barking and chase them until they depart their obstacles.
Meanwhile, resources on the company stated an Animal Birth Control (ABC) centre is underneath development. Once it is inaugurated, work to sterilize the canines would begin. As there is no place to sterilize the canines, the programme used to be stopped for months together and in consequence, canines have multiplied within the city.
