BELAGAVI: Incidents of untamed animals being run over via dashing trains have larger within the wooded area area of Khanapur taluk in recent years. Over 30 animals together with three elephants were killed up to now 4 years but no proper measures were taken to protect the animals.

According to ACF CB Patil, the wooded area department has given many ideas to the railway department to take measures like lowering the rate of trains whilst passing through wooded area areas, installing fencing along the track and implementing a ban on passengers throwing food within the wooded area stretch.


But none of them were implemented. Fed up with the negligence of the railways, the wooded area department had additionally registered a criticism in opposition to SWR government engineer in 2017 after the demise of an elephant close to Tavarakatti.


According to vary wooded area officer S S Ningani, some of the reasons for the expanding instances of animal deaths is the rise in teach motion.


“Presently, track doubling work on the Londa direction is occurring and once the work is done the motion of trains will increase and so will instances of animal deaths. There is a necessity of coordination between railway and wooded area department to take on the issue. There are some areas the place such accidents may also be averted via changing the common habitat of untamed animals,” Ningani mentioned.
