JALANDHAR: Expressing dissatisfaction at the working of Punjab Pollution Control Board, the NGT appointed monitoring committee chairman Justice Pritam Pal (retd) on Wednesday mentioned that the officers failing to check air pollution in water channels could be taken to task and penal action would also be initiated in opposition to them. Justice Pal made these remarks after seeing the black water flowing thru Kala Sanghia drain and foul odor emanating from it.

He and different individuals of the committee including former Punjab leader secretary SC Aggarwal, PPCB member Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal and previous PPCB secretary Babu Ram additionally met citizens of villages along the drain at Gurudwara Tahli Sahib at village Baler Khanpur including the kin of those affected by cancer. He expressed surprise at the scenario whilst talking to media persons later at Sultanpur Lodhi.


He mentioned that one month time were given to the PPCB officers, their working and results could be monitored after a month. “Officials of any department chargeable for air pollution in water channels could be facing tricky action and penal action could be initiated in opposition to them. What may also be worse than the truth that folks are not getting clean water or air,” he mentioned.


He later additionally noticed the treatment of waste water and utilization of treated water for irrigation at village Seechewal.
