UP: Five killed in oxygen cylinder explosion in Jaunpur, building collapses

VARANASI: At least five persons were killed whilst five others suffered grave accidents when a building collapsed following an oxygen cylinder explosion near Jagdishpur railway crossing underneath Line Bazar police station in Jaunpur district on Thursday evening.


Jaunpur district Justice of the Peace Arvind Malappa Bangari, SP Ashish Tiwari and other officials rushed to the accident website online to observe rescue work.


Reports said that on the ground floor of the building - owned via Harishchandra Patel - one Vijay Pratap Singh was operating his store - 'Singh Oxygen and Medical Agency' - since 1990. The license of the store was issued in the name of Singh's wife Sumant Singh.


On Thursday evening, an oxygen cylinder exploded and then whole building collapsed, said Line Bazar police. The sound of the explosion led to chaos available in the market and people began operating helter skelter. After short time locals may know about the incident and began efforts to remove particles for rescuing people buried underneath it. On getting information, police, rescue teams and fire opponents reached the spot.


Till overdue evening, 10 persons were rescued and rushed to district sanatorium where medical doctors declared five of them introduced useless. Jaunpur SP showed five deaths on this incident. He said some labourers constructing a temple near the accident website online were status near the store for some work when the explosion happened. Five of them died in the explosion.


The Jaunpur DM has ordered a magisterial probe into the incident to grasp the real reason for explosion.
