Asian Athletics Championships: Gomathi, Tejinderpal win gold

DOHA: Unheralded half miler Gomathi Marimuthu and shot putter Tejinderpal Singh Toor clinched a gold each to proportion the limelight as India bagged 5 medals on the second one day of the Asian Athletics Championships on Monday.

The first Indian medal of the second one day came from 24-year-old Gayakwad who clocked 57.22 seconds to finish third in ladies's 400m hurdles, in the back of Vietnam's Quach The Lan (56.10) and Bahrain's Aminat Yusuf Jamal (56.39).

His male counterpart Jabir then added a bronze through working the third fastest men's 400m hurdles through an Indian as he clocked a personal best possible of 49.13 seconds.

In men's 800m ultimate, Muhammed Afsal completed 7th with a time of one:54.68 whilst Asian Games silver medallist Jinson Johnson used to be no longer in a position to finish the race.
