Congress opened doors to infiltrators: Ram Madhav

GUWAHATI: BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav on Friday introduced a scathing assault on the Congress alleging that it used to be the Congress govt at the Centre in 1967 that opened the country's doors to infiltrators.
"Who allowed infiltrators in large numbers into India, particularly the Northeast? It used to be the Congress govt at the Centre, which in 1967 repealed the Prevention of Infiltration from Pakistan Act and opened India's doors to infiltrators from East Pakistan and West Pakistan.

"Large numbers of infiltrators from East Pakistan entered into Assam and different northeastern states," Ram Madhav told a press convention here.

He additionally accused the previous Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi-led Congress govt of retreating from updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in 2010.

"When the NRC used to be to be ready through a pilot undertaking in 2010, the infiltrators engineered protests against it. Citing those anti-NRC protests as an excuse, the Tarun Gogoi govt halted the NRC update," he stated.

"It is the BJP govt led by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal that has revived the NRC update. It is on the verge of completion now. How can they who backed out from the NRC update, preach us on it now?" the BJP leader asked.


He stated that it used to be the Congress which used to be harming the interests of the Northeast and the country as a whole. "We are dedicated to protect the identification, culture and heritage of the folks of the area and we are going to put in force Clause 6 of the Assam Accord," he stated.


Ram Madhav stated that his birthday celebration used to be assured of successful all the 10 Lok Sabha seats it had decided to contest within the Northeast.


"The Congress does no longer exist in a large a part of the country, including within the Northeast, where it is both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or the North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) partners," he stated.


Clause 6 of the Assam Accord envisages that suitable constitutional, legislative and administrative safeguards can be supplied to protect, preserve and promote the cultural, social, linguistic identification and heritage of the Assamese folks.
