PUNE: A constable used to be arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping a 24-year-old woman at the pretext of marriage since May 27, 2017.
The constable (33) posted at Chandannagar police station would remain in police custody till April 25. A married man with a son, the constable got pleasant with the girl through her uncle, who used to be his buddy.
Assistant inspector Manish Patil of the Mundhwa police stated, “The constable fell in love with the girl, a BCA, and started meeting her. On the pretext of marriage, he allegedly raped her and indulged in unnatural offence at various puts like Ghorpadi, Lohegaon and Kharadi between May 27, 2007, and April 15, 2019. He also made false guarantees of divorcing his wife at the earliest.”
The woman said in her FIR, “The constable pressured me to withdraw Rs1.85 lakh from my checking account and stored it with himn. He took away my faculty certificates and other paperwork and refused to return them. He started warding off me and refused to marry me. He also warned of dire penalties.”
Patil stated when the girl discovered that the constable had made false guarantees of marriage, she determined to register an FIR.
Senior cops were knowledgeable concerning the constable’s arrest. Senior inspector Krishna Indalkar, the Chandannagar police station in-charge, stated, “The constable did not report to responsibility for 5 days. We have won knowledge of his arrest.”
