Broken ceilings; chapped, damp walls; rotting doorways, home windows — quarters of City Armed Reserve constables are a sad sight. And what makes the sight much more poignant are the swanky officials’ residences within reach

Last week, The Times of India, a sister e-newsletter of Bangalore Mirror, reported that as many as 577 police constables had surrender the force within the ultimate 4 years. It attributed the fashion to unsure weekly offs, much less pay, unattractive advantages and lack of dignity, amongst others. The ultimate reason why – lack of dignity – is particularly stark at the City Armed Reserve (CAR) complicated on Mysuru Road.

Enter the compound and you notice two worlds -- a brand spanking new multi-storied residential complicated on one side (for police officers, in fact) and a collection of ramshackle, dingy tenements at the different. There are 700 such quarters filled with constables and their households. The officials’ complicated is but to be occupied.

The one bed room, hall and kitchen (1 BHK) quarters for constables have been built over 50 years ago and most are a security hazard. The salient features of these quarters are cracked walls, poor ventilation, leaking roofs, broken doorways and home windows, damp walls and damaged ceilings.
The higher government claim that efforts are being made to fix the problems at these quarters but the residents beg to fluctuate.

The residents, who aren't authorized to precise their grievances, hesitated to narrate their woes when Bangalore Mirror visited the complicated. Many of them are ready to narrate the problems however need to stay nameless. They stated that higher government, together with the then Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara, had visited the complicated in 2016 and had confident them that the infrastructure could be repaired – and even embarked at the project. But the residents stated the government lost hobby after renovating a few hundred quarters.

“I joined the police department with a lot enthusiasm however now I repent the verdict. I can't complain in opposition to the poor situation of my living right here. If I dare to carry the poor situation of these quarters to the notice of the higher government, It's not that i am sure whether they are going to allow me to work in Bengaluru. They might transfer me to a few different district,’’ a police constable stated on situation of anonymity.

The different downside for these residents is they can not afford to have visitors over for greater than 12 hours. Their one BHK accommodation can slightly area their very own households, depart on my own visitors who come visiting every so often.

City Armed Reserve Assistant Commissioner of Police Gopal Reddy instructed BM stated the department has taken up replacing underground drainage pipes at an estimated cost of around Rs 2 crore ultimate yr.

“We could not take renovation of quarters ultimate yr since we need to exchange the UGD pipes on a concern basis,’’ stated Reddy, adding that a proposal to renovate 58 quarters were despatched for approval.

“We will take up renovation of around 60 quarters as soon as we receive price range. The building of 2BHK quarters is in development,” the ACP stated.
