Hyd: Rich heritage falls to vandals, encroachers

HYDERABAD: As town celebrates World Heritage Day, loads of intricately designed structures belonging to the three dynasties of Deccan Kakatiyas, Qutb Shahis and Asaf Jahis continue to be defaced by way of vandals and encroachers. Worse still, only some of them to find place within the protected record of monuments falling under the Telangana Heritage (Protection, Preservation, Conservation and Maintenance) Act.

A couple of structures of the Asaf Jahi duration comparable to Osmania General Hospital, Unani Hospital, Victoria Zenana Hospital, Errum Manzil, Sardar Mahal and Bachelors’ Building are on their last legs regardless that they're part of the record, professionals stated. “In April 2017 when the Act used to be handed, 137 heritage buildings were deleted and some Kakatiya monuments and a couple of Qutb Shahi monuments were added. Recently, the record has been revised but most of the buildings within the record don't even exist now,” stated Mohammed Safiullah of Deccan Heritage Trust.

Some of the structures that exist within the record but have disappeared from town landscape are Ameen Manzil in Saidabad and Banjara Bhavan in Banjara Hills. “While most of the Qutb Shahi structures are at least protected by way of the state regulation, the Asaf Jahi structures that grasp historical importance aren't even included within the protected record of monuments,” rued P Anuradha Reddy of INTACH.

She stated loads of heritage structures are dealing with grave forget and exclusion of a few of them from the record used to be a big mistake at a time when town is trying to get UNESCO tag.
