As many as 38 employees of the plant had taken sick due to the leak, police stated. “Twenty employees were admitted to hospitals in Nira and Lonand. Nine sufferers were moved to KEM clinic in Pune, while maximum others were discharged,” district well being officer Dilip Mane stated.

“The situation of two sufferers is significant. Exposure to the poisonous vapours of the chemical, acetic anhydride, has significantly affected their eyes and lungs. One of them is on ventilator improve,” a health care provider from KEM clinic stated.

The other seven sufferers — Gopal Sigdar, Dattu Pokale, Sandip Shedage, Kathireshan, Sujit Naik, Pravin Amre and Abhishek R — are being treated in the clinic’s common ward for minor court cases.

The other essential patient, 34-year-old Avinash Suryavanshi, works as a more fit at the plant. “Avinash used to be having a tea wreck at the canteen, when he inhaled the vapours and fainted,” his cousin Hanumant Suryavanshi stated.


He regained awareness hours later at a clinic in Nira. “He complained of breathlessness and his eyes have turned extremely pink. He is not able to look the rest. Doctors at KEM clinic have confident us he would no longer lose his sight,” Hanumant stated.
