Muslim trust sends CCP legal notice over burial restrictions

PANAJI: The Azad Jamatul Muslimeen Welfare Trust has sent the Corporation of the City of Panaji a legal notice over Muslims from neighbouring areas of Taleigao, St Cruz, Merces, Bambolim, Curca, St Pedro and St Inez no longer being accepted to be buried at St Inez Kabrastan.

The trust has given the CCP 14 days to take action in the topic, failing which it has mentioned that it will manner the high court of Bombay at Goa.


It also referred to the Goa Human Rights Commission’s latest inquiry report pointing out that it's the paramount accountability of the government to offer burial grounds for all communities.


President of the affiliation Sayed Manzoor Kadri mentioned that on April five the circle of relatives of a Muslim man who expired were denied NOC through CCP to bury the body at St Inez Kabrastan soliciting for a letter from any other birthday party.


“The family members of the deceased approached the CCP mayor in this regard to get the NOC. Such incidents should no longer repeat at some point,” he mentioned.
