Noida spent Rs 2 crore on shelters for cattle, but they’re still on the streets

NOIDA: An RTI reaction has printed that Noida Authority spent Rs 2 crore in the last monetary yr for the maintenance of stray farm animals in the city, yet most can be observed roaming on roads, posing site visitors danger.

“I had filed an RTI question in January this yr with the Noida Authority, asking how a lot that they had spent previously five years. So far, I've were given only one reaction from Noida’s public health department, which had spent Rs 2 crore on stray farm animals in the last monetary yr. Responses from different departments are yet to come,” stated RTI activist Vikrant Tongad. “However, I saw about two dozen farm animals roaming the streets of Noida in Sector 6 on Thursday and extra every day. Where is the cash going?” he stated.


TOI had previous reported that Noida’s best gaushala in Sector 94 is overcrowded. The premises has over 1,300 stray farm animals, which is almost double its capability of 600-700. It had also been reported that the Authority allocated Rs 2 crore for the improvement of a short lived gaushala for stray cows’ systematic care, nourishment and scientific treatment in Wazidpur village in Greater Noida.


When contacted, Rajesh Kumar Singh, OSD to Noida Authority, stated apart from spending cash on the temporary cowshed in Wazidpur village, “Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh was spent on the animal shelter in Sector 94”. “It is still not enough as we’ve requested for extra grant from the government for repairs of stray animals and their shelters,” he added.


On a daily basis, Kumar stated, a nominal quantity is spent on diesel and labour when vehicles ply to pick up stray farm animals from roads.
