PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: With the development of a subway at the College of Military Engineering (CME) junction at Dapodi on Pune-Mumbai freeway, traffic movement in the area is predicted to make stronger through May.
The 12km stretch of Pune-Mumbai freeway, from Bhakti Shakti chowk in Nigdi to Harris bridge in Dapodi, is in the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) limits. The street was widened to 61 metres to handle expanding vehicular traffic. The freeway has grade separators to enable fast commute. There is one bus speedy transit gadget (BRTS) lane every on all sides of grade separator and two provider roads for internal traffic.
There are best 3 traffic signals between Nigdi and Dapodi — Nashik Phata, Phugewadi and CME junction. The civic body had put in traffic signals at CME junction after the freeway was widened to enable the army cars travelling from Pune to enter CME premises and for cars from CME premises to move against Pimpri.
A civic professional said that the PCMC constructed the subway so that cars travelling at the grade separator do not need to halt at the traffic sign. Vehicles travelling from Phugewadi will have the ability to cross over the subway against Harris bridge in Dapodi and further to Bopodi chowk in Pune. This is predicted to reduce vehicular traffic at the junction. In case of an emergency, if defence cars from Pune have to visit the CME campus or vice versa, then vehicular traffic at the provider street can also be stopped, said the professional.
He added that there could be footpaths on all sides of the subway to ensure pedestrian movement.
The professional showed that the development of the subway is just about complete and traffic movement has been initiated.
The work at the grade separator in the subway was to be finished through December 2018 but it surely was behind schedule.
