SURAT: People of Davdahad in Dang district boycotted vote casting for Lok Sabha election on Tuesday to protest towards the administration for its failure to construct a bridge over Khapri river connecting their village to essential centres of the tribal-dominated district.

A seven-year-old girl had died of a snakebite on August 13, 2018 as the ambulance was once overdue in taking her to a sanatorium. The existing low-level bridge is broken and it had not on time the ambulance’s arrival. The existing low-level bridge steadily will get submerged in monsoon season. Villagers had been then compelled to move the river with great issue and produce Ravina Mukesh Devsu to the ambulance stationed on the other finish. The girl was once taken to Ahwa Civil Hospital where she died right through treatment.


Of the 467 registered voters in the village, no longer one exercised his or her right to franchise. The villagers had earlier submitted a memorandum to the district collector not easy the bridge over Khapri river and threatened to boycott the election if it was once no longer sanctioned.

The memorandum says, “The minor girl died of a snakebite and a variety of scholars from the village need to risk their lives to move the river in the monsoon season yearly. The government have failed build a bridge for a number of years now.”

Dang district collector N K Damore mentioned, “The paintings to construct the bridge began a few months in the past, but the contractor just disappeared. The procedure is on to assemble it but the villagers had been unhappy and boycotted the election.”


In Tapi district, three villages of Songadh taluka boycotted vote casting on Tuesday over the development of a road. A complete of one,260 voters of Juna Amalpada, Budhwada and Juni Kuivel villages abstained from vote casting.


“On two booths of the 3 villages, no vote casting came about. The villagers need a proper road. Election officials tried to persuade them on Tuesday, but they refused to vote,” Tapi district collector R S Ninama mentioned.


Both Songadh and Dang are tribal-dominated spaces. Dang is a part of Valsad parliamentary constituency while the 3 villages of Songadh come beneath Bardoli Lok Sabha constituency.
