VARANASI: On the last day of the three-day electioneering ban imposed on him through the Election Commission of India (ECI), leader minister Yogi Adityanath presented prayers at Sankat Mochan temple and visited Gadhwaghat Ashram, which has a large following in the Yadav community.
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath also paid a courtesy visit to unwell veteran Bharatiya Janata Party leader and ex-mayor of Varanasi, Amarnath Yadav.
Yogi reached Sankat Mochan temple on Thursday and held talks with its mahant Vishwambhar Nath Mishra after offering prayers to Lord Hanuman. The mahant said no political problems were discussed between him and Yogi.
The leader minister went to Gadhwaghat Ashram and spent about 45 mins there. After offering prayers on the temple, he visited the ‘gaushala’ (cowshed) and fed cows and then interacted with Peethadheeshwar Sarnanandji Maharaj and other seers.
Later, Aarnanandji Maharaj told TOI, “It was a standard visit. Not a unmarried phrase regarding election was discussed between us. But, the issues of country’s security and construction were taken up.”
The ashram has been attracting politicians of all hues in poll season. During his three-day keep in the city in 2017, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited the ashram in March 2017. The ashram has 125 branches across the nation and over two crore followers. Bhojpuri singer and actor Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirahua had also prayed on the ashram on April 7 ahead of going to Azamgarh.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav have also visited the ashram in previous. In past due ’90s, when BJP was led through Kushabhau Thakrey, the birthday celebration had held its nationwide govt assembly on the ashram.
Yogi also faced city’s visitors woes when his fleet was stranded for a while on Kamaksha Road. Security workforce escorting the CM swung into motion and cleared the route, after which Yogi reached Ram Krishna hospital in Luxa area the place he talked to seers managing the hospital and met the sufferers in wards.

ECI had banned Yogi from electioneering for three days over his remarks at an election rally.
