Social welfare dept finds old age homes in good shape

Coimbatore: Officials of the social welfare division, who inspected all old-age properties in the district following the directions of the Madras top court, found them in excellent shape and provided with elementary amenities.
The directions were issued after an inmate of a senior citizen complex here filed a public hobby litigation (PIL) alleging that the promoters charged exorbitant charge but failed to offer even the minimum amenities as mentioned in the government order. The petitioner additionally said that several real property promoters made equivalent offers to draw retired government and public sector workers.

After the PIL was filed, it was alleged that two different senior citizen properties were functioning with none amenities.


As in step with the court route, the officials inspected 20 old-age properties run by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and 10 senior citizen complexes.


Explaining that all the properties are registered with the dept, an respectable said that they have ready a compliance report after the inspections. “During our inspections, we found the homes and complexes to be in excellent shape and provided with elementary amenities. A equivalent workout was performed around the state,” he told TOI.
