HYDERABAD: People around the town made a beeline to markets to buy ornamental pieces and components ahead of Ugadi, the Telugu New Year. The festival will probably be celebrated on Saturday. As part of the celebrations, residential apartments and commercial establishments are being decked up with plants and strings of mango leaves.
In addition to the common prasadam, folks also get ready Ugadi p acchadi, a unique delicacy ready with components like raw mango, neem plants, jaggery and many others., for the festival which symbolises the other hues of lifestyles. The New Year celebrations aren't entire with out this delicacy.
"The Ugadi pacchadi is an interesting concoction of jaggery, tamarind, mango pieces and neem flowers which has all the six tastes - sweet, sour, bitter, salt, chilly and pungent - that symbolise the different shades of life," mentioned M Ranghu Nandan, a priest.
Ugadi brings with it the ritual of Panchaga Sravanam, the recitation of the new almanac, which is organised in temples.
