Tobacco Cessation Centres in Maharashtra’s 29 dental colleges

NAGPUR: The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) will determine Tobacco Cessation Centers (TCCs) in all 29 affiliated dental schools from the upcoming consultation. The resolution has been taken following Central government directives to check tobacco threat in India.


The centres will assist habitual smokers and tobacco users to give up the dependancy. In Nagpur, Government Dental College and Hospital (GDCH) can have the TCC.

“As part of the global challenge of World Health Organization (WHO), the Dental Council of India (DCI) has made up our minds to begin TCCs in all dental schools in the nation. In Maharashtra, all 29 dental schools were directed to establish and start the centres as consistent with the information of the well being ministry,” stated MUHS registrar Dr KD Chavan.

Dr Chavan stated the need for TCCs was once felt because of build up in oral cancer circumstances in Maharashtra.
