Goethe Institut, KM Music Conservatory invite musicians for residency in Chennai

CHENNAI: The Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Chennai, is launching the 3rd edition of its South Asian Music Residency, (SAMUR), with a batch of 12 skilled musicians, composers, improvisers and performers from Germany and the South Asian area. The artists will probably be selected and invited this summer time for a unique two-week musical collaboration in Chennai.

SAMUR, which began in 2016, encourages its contributors to share ideas, carry out each different's works, and write tune for one another, while also exploring and broadening their own imaginative and prescient. This is why, a very powerful prerequisite is the participation of professional musicians with an ability to play and broaden tune with others.


SAMUR also explores chances for cross-cultural trade on practice and theory of contemporary tune composition in numerous international locations, relation between traditional and contemporary tune and challenges of quite a lot of genres and types. It appears into capacity-building, interplay of emerging and experienced musicians and composers in South-Asia, presentation of recent compositions and ideas for collaborative tasks and strengthening the networking of festivals, establishments and freelancers within the area with Germany. A different characteristic will probably be public performances during the process the residency.


The directors of SAMUR 2019 will probably be German composer and Saxophone participant Roger Hanschel and Indo-German composer, Drummer and Percussionist Ramesh Shotham.


The residency will will take place from August 18 to September 1 in Chennai, in collaboration with A R Rahman's K M Music Conservatory. It is now open for packages from Germany, India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The remaining date is May 30.
