Mop-up round for PG medical admissions: Around 650 seats up for grabs

MUMBAI: Around 650 seats have been up for grabs in the mop-up round for postgraduate scientific admissions from across all quota in government and personal colleges in the state. Though many of those seats are to be had in non-clinical subjects similar to body structure, anatomy, pathology and others, a handful also are from common branches like surgical procedure and gynaecology. Fifty-six students, whose admissions have been cancelled after a Supreme Court order on the Maratha quota, didn't report to the State's CET Cell, even when they have been restored, when the state passed an ordinance making use of the quota from the 2019-20 academic consultation.

Anand Rayate, commissioner of state's CET cellular, stated that many of those students would have managed to safe seats elsewhere in other states or in deemed universities and due to this fact can have not reported for admissions. Of the 56 seats, 8 students didn't report to dental colleges and 48 have been from MD/MS classes. The admissions have been cancelled after the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court made quota inapplicable for this academic year. The state passed an ordinance ammending the SEBC Act and made the quota applicable this year. All the 1,215 admissions in MD/MS and 285 in MDS have been restored and scholars got 3 days to report to their respective colleges.

After the Medical Council of India decreased the NEET-PG eligibility ranking from 50 to 45 percentile, 247 more students have registered for the admission process. These students might be considered for admissions to the mop-up round too.
