The village of Medini in Kumta taluk of Uttara Kannada district is understood for its fragrant rice, ‘Medini akki’, used in payasam and other chocolates. But it’s changing into a bitter and lonely harvest for the youths of this village, cosseted through the Western Ghats, as potential brides flip them down for living within the boondocks.
