Coimbatore: The 22-year-old faculty dropout, who suffered severe head injuries after a 20-year-old faculty scholar assaulted him a few days in the past, died on the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) on Thursday.
The deceased was once recognized as G Ranjithkumar of Shasthri Street at Selvapuram. "He had dropped out of the BBA course he was pursuing in a private college. There was a previous enmity between Ranjithkumar and a group of students, who were staying in a rented house at Press Enclave at Kovaipudur. On the night of October 12, when Ranjithkumar visited the place, V Adithya, a native of Thillai Nagar in Trichy and a second year BBA student at a private college in Kuniyamuthur, attacked him. Ranjithkumar suffered serious head injuries and was admitted in CMCH. He was later treated in a private hospital. After two days of treatment, he walked out of the hospital. But, he developed severe pain on his head and was admitted at the CMCH again four days ago. Doctors found that the wounds had not healed. He was given treatment and kept under observation. However, he became unconscious and died without responding to the treatment on Thursday morning," a police officer said.
Kuniyamuthur police had arrested Adithya for attacking Ranjithkumar and remanded him in judicial custody. He got here out of the jail on conditional bail and was once directed to signal a sign in on the Kuniyamuthur police station on a daily basis. However, after Ranjithkumar passed away, Adithya went lacking. City police have shaped a different team to nab him.
Meanwhile doctors at CMCH confirmed that Ranjithkumar died of head injuries after rumours began to spread that he died of dengue. Police are anticipating the postmortem report to ascertain the cause of demise.
