Fever patient ‘turned away’ over cash

Greater Noida: The family of a 33-year-old Jewar resident operating in Myanmar has alleged that Kailash sanatorium, Greater Noida, refused to admit him whe he was affected by prime fever of 103 degrees due to loss of money.

The patient, Ram Kumar, later got admitted to some other sanatorium.

"My brother works in Myanmar. He had fever which did not come down even after five days of treatment. Then we called him back to India. His flight landed late Friday night and he reached Pari Chowk around 12 in the midnight. We took him to Kailash hospital immediately as he was having an abdominal pain and feeling dizzy," Ram's elder brother Priyavrit Parmar informed TOI.

Priyavrit mentioned that once he, his father and Ram arrived at the sanatorium, they asked at the emergency counter to admit him immediately. "However, the representative at the counter said they will have to deposit Rs 10,000 for the patient's admission. When we showed them a Religare insurance card, they did not accept it. They asked us to speak to the casualty medical officer. We met the casualty medical officer, I told him that I have left my ATM card at home and hence don't have cash. I requested him to admit Ram and wait till 8am in the morning so that I could get cash from my home in Jewar. He seemed inclined to admit Ram but said we will have to ask the night manager Dr Maqbool Haq. When he spoke to Dr Haq, he straightaway refused to admit him saying that he can't be admitted without the payment," Priyavrit mentioned.

The brother of the patient has tweeted to leader minister Yogi Adityanath, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union minister Mahesh Sharma, whose wife is the chairman of the Kailash Healthcare Limited, in regards to the incident.

Dr Sanil Kapoor, clinical superintendent of Kailash sanatorium informed TOI that Dr SRA Rizvi, the clinical officer within the emergency had mentioned that the relations of the patient had merely enquired about admission and the patient was not present with them at that time.

"We have many patients admitted here who have insurance card," he mentioned.

However, Priyavrit informed TOI that Ram was present at the emergency counter with them.
