One dead, three critically ill after consuming spurious liquor in Jharkhand

RANCHI: One person was once killed and three fell critically in poor health after consuming spurious liquor on Sunday morning in Gumla in Jharkhand, 94 kilometers west of Ranchi.

Kartik Oraon (40), resident of Garhtoli village underneath Gumla police station, died after consuming Mahua. Three others, Dahru Oraon (30), Budhram Oraon (24) and Muneshwar Oraon (20) were rushed to Gumla district medical institution on Sunday morning. Dahru and Budhram were shifted to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) in Ranchi within the afternoon, Gumla civil surgeon mentioned. All four had ate up Mahua ready by way of one Bano Devi, also a resident of Garhtoli village.


Dahru and Budhram remained crucial until Sunday night time, Rims resources mentioned.


Bhupendra Prasad, Gumla sub-divisional police officer, mentioned it gave the impression in the principle investigation that the Mahua ate up by way of all the four was once ready within the village. "More can be said as investigation progresses," Prasad added.


According to police resources, all the four persons had ate up Mahua together on Saturday afternoon. They started complaining of ill-health on early Sunday morning hours. Kartik and all others, who were at their homes, had bouts of dysentery and vomiting. Kartik died at his home. Three others were rushed to district medical institution.


The Gumla incident comes little over a month after the loss of life of 19 persons in Ranchi. Several jawans of the Jharkhand Armed Police, one volleyball coach of Ranchi University and others died within a span of three days after consuming spurious liquor in Doranda area. The incident came about within the first week of September.
