Seat crisis: PG courses in 100 Assam colleges soon

GUWAHATI: In an effort to relieve the continued seat disaster in universities, the Assam authorities has determined to launch postgraduate classes in 100 schools across the state. Announcing the verdict on Monday, education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma mentioned the government has resolved to provide opportunity to each and every student passing out of faculty to pursue higher studies. According to sources, over 50% of the scholars graduating do not get an opportunity to enrol themselves in PG classes—mainly due to shortage of seats.


"Due to dearth of seats at the PG level, students are finding it difficult to get admission in universities. The number of seats available at the Gauhati University and Dibrugarh University are not enough to accommodate the passouts. So we have decided to start PG courses in at least 100 existing colleges," mentioned Sarma at a government serve as in Nagaon, central Assam. As a part of the initiative of upgrading undergraduate schools, the Majuli College in Majuli island in higher Assam will get postgraduate classes in a while.


Sarma added, "The government will give its approval to Majuli College for opening PG courses in a day or two."
