8 city schools to get sports nurseries

GURGAON: From the first week of December, the town will get 8 sports activities nurseries in government and personal schools. The transfer comes after the sports activities division was directed to open 20 nurseries in different districts to coach scholars in 10 other sports activities.

District sports activities officer Paras Ram stated, "With these eight facilities in Gurgaon, the number of sports nurseries in Haryana will reach 16. As these nurseries will come up in government and private schools, budding sportspersons will no longer have to travel far to take admission in schools for quality training."


Explaining the process of getting enrolled in a nursery of a specific sport, officers stated the choice procedure is through exams. Officials stated the 8 schools were selected for coaching in numerous sports activities categories — Vivek Bharati School in Ghamroj for archery, Bal Bharati Senior Section School in Sohna road for athletics, SDS Senior Section School in Farrukhnagar for boxing, Shanti Niketan Public School in Farrukhnagar for handball, Government Boys School in Gurgaon village for hockey, MD Senior Section School in Makrola for kabaddi, Government Senior Section School in sector 4-7 for volleyball and Ajanta Public School in Gurgaon for soccer — and avid gamers for each and every nursery were selected.


The officers added each and every instructor will be chargeable for 25 avid gamers in one centre. He will get Rs 15,000 to coach the avid gamers for at least 22 days a month. Private and government schools will be given Rs 1.20 lakh in keeping with annum for upkeep of the sports activities nursery. In addition, avid gamers may also be entitled to a monthly scholarship — Rs 1,500 (age Eight-14) and Rs 2,000 (age 15-19).


City sports activities fanatics have lauded the initiative but pointed out that wrestling and swimming were ignored. District swimming coach Ravindra stated, "On their own, no school has opened a nursery for swimmers. This is a tragedy for Gurgaon swimmers." Sharing identical views, Shivani Kataria, national-level swimmer from Gurgaon, stated, "Most swimmers in Gurgaon train in Delhi's Talkatora stadium. We don't have any swimming pool which is temperature controlled. We need better facilities for swimming in the city."
