1,200 Arakan refugees in Mizoram district

AIZAWL: Around 1200 people from Arakan in Myanmar have taken safe haven in Mizoram's southernmost Lawngtlai district after the Myanmarese Army introduced a crackdown on Arakan militants, state executive officials said here on Tuesday.

The refugees from Arakan area of Myanmar fled and entered Lawngtlai district because of clashes between the Arakan rebels and the Myanmarese Army and the final wave of refugees arrived on Saturday final, the legit said.


Arakan district in Myanmar is simply across the border.


The deputy commissioner of Lawngtlai, Arun T and superintendent of police Lalsanglura these days visited the four villages within the district the place the Arakan people had taken safe haven.


The Lawngtlai district administration on Monday sent 40 quintals of rice to the four villages the place the displaced people have been sheltered.


Medical group have been sent via the district administration and also via the Assam Rifles to make sure that there was no outbreak of illnesses, the officials added.
