Govt to standardise parameters used for measuring air quality

NEW DELHI: The Centre will soon start up the method for standardisation of equipment, information and all different parameters required to measure purity of air, Environment Minister Harsh Vardhan said on Wednesday.

The minister was once talking at an match here to announce the synchronisation of Indian Space Research Organisation's (ISRO) regional positioning machine 'NAVIC' with Indian atomic clocks.

A memorandum on behalf of the 33rd Asia Pacific Metrology Programme General Assembly and Related Meetings 2017 (APMP GA 2017) was once submitted to the minister on the instance.

The memorandum known as for framing of a countrywide coverage in which "calibration and certification of instruments" may also be taken up for a clean setting, an idea that was once authorized via the environment minister.

Vardhan admitted that many experts had told him that the factors in use for measuring PM 2.five and PM 10 levels of pollution and many others, have been far more than the true standards.


"If it is so, there is an urgent need to set these standards because otherwise you keep frightening your people," he said.


The setting minister said the initiation for standardising equipment, information and different parameters to judge air quality was once a "very important thing" for him.


"I think for that to be performed, I do not have any directions from anyone. Our high minister can also be satisfied if I get started the method for standardisation of equipment associated with environmental issues.


"This process will likely be initiated at the earliest. We could have a gathering of experts from Science and Technology ministry, setting ministry and the Central Pollution Control Board," the minister added.
