Mayor pays Rs 200 penalty in assault case

Hubballi: Mayor D K Chavan on Tuesday paid Rs 200 as penatly at the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) courtroom after he was pulled up for failing to appear in an attack case.


Chavan mentioned that he'll abide via the courtroom's directives. The courtroom slapped the penalty and cancelled the non-bailable arrest warrant it had issued recently. The mayor stated he could not seem as he was in Ahmedabad.


Chavan had come underneath scanner when he at the side of others tried to hinder police from discharging their tasks when they arrested a woman for allegedly possessing ganja in 2007.


On June 6, 2007, Kamaripet police raided the house of Ambabai Athani. When they have been taking the lady to the courtroom, Chavan, local citizens Ranga Baddi, Ramu, Basava and Shobha Nakod and others staged a protest in opposition to the detention. They allegedly pelted stones at the police vehicle. Police had registered instances in opposition to the accused and filed a chargesheet
