Ooty residents ask minister to appoint municipal commissioner

Udhagamandalam: A group of residents of the hill the city wrote to municipal management minister S P Velumani not easy the appointment of Ooty municipal commissioner. The post lies vacant for the past one and part years.

Signed via over 100 residents from quite a lot of localities, the letter said the lengthy emptiness had affected civic problems as facilities are poorly managed and once in a while totally disregarded. Issues like highway works, "overflowing drainage and eaten-up footpaths" have not been resolved, the letter said.


Anita S, one of the vital resident informed TOI, "We pay tax to the municipality. And municipality, in turn, is bound to render its duty. The waiting is over. We demand the government to designate a permanent municipal commissioner soon."


Another resident M Latha said, "It is a people's movement for the appointment of the commissioner."


Currently, Ooty municipal engineer holds the commissioner's post as further duty.
