School ‘refuses’ to send yoga boys to camp after food plaint

GURUGRAM: Two town boys, who have been part of the U-14 Gurgaon yoga team that clinched a gold on the state-level championship final week and bagged a spot within the Haryana team, have been allegedly denied permission through their faculty to participate in a camp for the impending nationals.

Two brothers Sagar and Gaurav finally reached Rewari for the seven-day camp two days past due with out their sports activities teacher, who refused to accompany them it seems that because the scholars had complained about deficient amenities and improper vitamin all over the state championship final Tuesday.

TOI reported on October 28 that the six boys of Gurgaon yoga team had allegedly spent a complete day on an aloo paratha every and slept at the floor at evening all over the daylong state-level match in Rewari.

While four of the lads have been from Government School in Sector four/7, two have been from Kanhai Government School. Three of them — Sagar and Gaurav of the Sector four/7 faculty and Prabhat of Kanhai faculty — have made it to the Haryana team for the national championship starting in Chhattisgarh on November 7.

"The preparatory camp began on Sunday but the school allowed me to take the players to Rewari on Monday only after giving a written consent, excusing the school of all responsibilities. We reached the camp on Monday evening and the boys could begin their preparations on Tuesday only," alleged Pradeep, the lads' father.

"It is the school's duty to ensure that the players reach the camp in time (by Saturday night). But the school's sports teacher (Malti Sagar) refused to go. I spent from my pocket to take the boys to Rewari," he added.

"We reached here late and missed the first two days' practice," rued Gaurav, talking to TOI from Rewari.

When asked, the sports activities teacher, Sagar, said, "The children and their parents alleged that I did not give the kids food (during the state event). In such a case, I would not go to any camp with them."

Sector four/7 faculty's main Suman Sharma, alternatively, said, "I did not get any official information on the national yoga championship. This is the reason I did not permit the kids to go to the camp. On Monday, the kids went with the parent. Everything is being done keeping the district education department in the loop. Nevertheless, Malti cannot say no to a job, she is a government servant."

Ram Kumar, district training officer, sought to play down the topic. "There must have been some procedural delay which is why the boys were held up for a day. Everything is sorted now and they are at the camp. And the sports teacher's absence would not affect the players as no one will be left unattended at the camp. There are people in Rewari to look after the players," Kumar added.
