Assam govt to buy Bhupen Hazarika's house

GUWAHATI: Assam govt has set itself on a challenge mode to obtain an deserted three-storey house positioned at Kolkata's Golf Course Road from its present proprietor where the bard had lived and created his magic for approximately 40 many years.

"Assam government expressed its desire to purchase Dr. Bhupen Hazarika's House at 77 Golf Course Tollygunge, Kolkata and convert it into a cultural centre," CM's media guide Hrishikesh Goswami who met Dangi told TOI.


"Dr Hazarika's house in Kolkata from where he created many of his master-pieces is also associated with the emotions of the people of Assam. Showing respect to the emotions of the people of Assam, the state government under the directions of the chief minister has taken initiative to claim the ownership of the house to make it a cultural centre," Goswami said adding that Dangi has replied definitely and confident to appear into the matter.


The state govt is determined to buy the house and is able to pay the existing proprietor handsomely. Sonowal is more likely to call on his West Bengal counterpart Mamta Banerjee for a joint effort to maintain Bhupenda's house.
