Suspected NSCN-K rebels attack Tinsukia colliery

DIBRUGARH: Suspected NSCN (Khaplang) militants attacked a colliery within the Ledo area of Tinsukia district on Tuesday evening, triggering fashionable panic among staff.


A 4-5-member group armed with AK-81 and M-16 assault rifles entered the Tikak colliery round middle of the night and fired a number of shots at two coal dumper vans stationed on the colliery, police stated. A CCTV digicam throughout the colliery captured photos of a minimum of four militants wearing fatigue firing on the two cars. The bullets hit the gasoline tanks inflicting it to blow up.


The vans and a high-power generator set have been gutted within the resultant hearth.


Sources stated that round 170 staff have been provide on the site all over the incident, which happened within the west unit of the Tikak colliery. The colliery, located with regards to the Assam-Arunachal border, has been a comfortable goal for the NSCN (Ok) for extortion activities.
