Guwahati: Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has mentioned the ones looking to disrupt the process of updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) are "enemies" of the state.

"Some unscrupulous elements have been trying to foment trouble in the society so that the preparation of the NRC is stalled. Those trying to create confusion about the NRC cannot be well-wishers of the Assamese society. Rather, they are enemies. We must all stand united to protect Assamese identity by defeating their ill designs," Sonowal mentioned at a Raas Mahotsav match in Barpeta on Friday.

Sonowal had, on similar traces, described the ones "disrupting" the NRC replace process as "anti-national" final week.
