Coimbatore: The town corporation has after all issued the work order for the much awaited 24x7 water provide project to a French company named Suez Infra.
Officials stated the company has intensive revel in in implementing identical water provide tasks in Paris, Shanghai and East Delhi. The firm had recently taken up a identical project in Kolkata, they stated.
"The company has vast experience in this area. We will sign the final agreement soon. The contract will be for five years — four years for construction of infrastructure and one year for conducting a study," stated an legit who didn't need to be named.
Sources with the corporation stated the legit announcement in this regard can be made soon as they were but to signal some final agreements.
The project estimated at Rs 556.57 crore comes to replacing 1467km of pipeline in 60 wards and putting in of 29 new overhead tanks. It would benefit 10.five lakh folks within the town. The project used to be proposed retaining in mind the inhabitants of the city in 2045.
"For now, we will only focus on the city limits. Later, the project will be extended to the added areas as well," the legit stated. For the added spaces, the corporation is also running on source augmentation which comes to laying a separate pipeline from Pillur dam to the city to extend the water consumption.
"We have started preparing a detailed project report for Pillur III scheme and once the state government approves it, 24x7 water supply project for added areas will be taken up simultaneously," the legit stated.
City's present water provide resources come with Pillur and Siruvani. While 125 MLD is drawn from Pillur day by day, 75 MLD is drawn from Siruvani.
When requested if the city has sufficient resources for the 24x7 water provide scheme, senior engineers stated the city has at all times had the sources for this scheme. "The problem has always been distribution system, which is out-dated. British-era pipes get damaged or broken every day, creating a hole in the coffers of the corporation. Also, the current pipes are very narrow. The project will see relaying of pipes for 1,467km," they stated.
