BHUBANESWAR: The transport division along side police will quickly get started a crackdown and impose a penalty of Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 for fitment of crash guards and bull bar on the front and rear of vehicles.

TOI has seen a letter, sent on Thursday through the transport division to the transport commissioner, asking them to start out a drive to dissuade other folks from the use of crash guards and bull bars. According to the letter, use of such equipment through car homeowners quantities to violation of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and poses a risk to pedestrians and commuters.


The transfer follows a up to date directive of the ministry of street transport and highways to the states asking them to test the use of crash guards in motor vehicles. "We received a circular from the ministry of road transport and highways on December 7. After examining it, we wrote to the transport commissioner asking them to apprise the regional transport officers (RTOs) of the restriction on the use of the accessories," mentioned a transport division officer. Officials of the dept mentioned they would pass on the ministry's directive to police for a joint crackdown. "We will initially launch an awareness campaign through advertisements for public and later start the enforcement drive," the officer mentioned.


Several four-wheelers, together with many government vehicles, are supplied with crash guards and bull bars to ensure minimum injury to vehicles right through accidents. The ministry, in its letter, mentioned motorists don't seem to be accredited to vary a motor car in this type of approach that the details contained in the certificate of registration are at variance with the ones at the start specified by the producer
