BHUBANESWAR: The excavation wing of the Archaeological Survey of India's Bhubaneswar department has discovered bone gear and ceramic assemblage dating again to the Chalcolithic period from Bharatihuda - a mound in Jalalpur village of Cuttack district. The discovery confirms the life of a wealthy rural culture - salient to that of the Chalcolithic age - within the valley of the dead river Prachi.
The excavation challenge aims to throw extra gentle on the cultural continuation of the Chalcolithic period into the early pre-historic generation alongside the coast.
The gear discovered hint at a rural settlement belonging to the Chalcolithic period which was once 3,500 to four,000 years in the past. The individuals who were alive then used to hunt and fish; additionally they knew agriculture. Along with bone gear and ceramics we also discovered some rice grains, which is quite interesting and points to the agrarian nature of the folks then," stated superintending archaeologist D B Garnayak. The ASI group had recognized the website in the midst of 2017 and began excavation from January nine, 2018. A 20-member ASI group and greater than 50 labourers are recently engaged on the 12 acre excavation website.
"It is a big website and we hqave divided it into four sections. From the southern phase we discovered issues which belong to the Chalcolithic period while the northern phase has indicators of a cultural continuity till the early pre-historic generation. As the website is most effective 20 km from the coast, we are quite hopeful of discovering the association of these folks with the ocean," stated Garnayak.
Bone harpoons, bone points, semi-finished bone gear, all of that have been probably used for looking and fishing, at the side of matte-impressed pottery and high-quality black and crimson wares were discovered in-situ. Similar pieces were found in Golabai Sasan in Khurda district within the 1990s.
The excavation on the website will continue till April 2018.
