Gambhir has unfinished business with Daredevils: CEO Dua

NEW DELHI: Delhi Daredevils CEO Hemant Dua feels that Gautam Gambhir is again to where he belongs and wish to entire his "unfinished business", which is successful the elusive Indian Premier League name for the franchise.

Gambhir, who was once a Daredevils participant from 2008-10, can be leading the capital franchise after seven eventful years with Kolkata Knight Riders through which he led them to two trophies.

"We were always keen to bring Gautam back home as he has unfinished business with the franchise (winning the trophy). He was the second highest scorer after David Warner during last IPL. And above all, he is a leader," Dua mentioned.

Dua is worked up that the newly-appointed chief coach Ricky Ponting and Gambhir are on "same page" in relation to staff building because the franchise gears upto win their maiden name.

"I had personally ensured that both Ricky and Gautam speak to each other and express what's there in their minds. I am glad they are both on the same page on team building. They have had extensive discussions on the way forward," the CEO mentioned.

Dua admitted that Gambhir wasn't a very difficult choice once the participant had told KKR to not retain him the use of 'Right To Match' (RTM) card.

"Look, there have been only three possible Indian captains - Ravichandran Ashwin, Ajinkya Rahane and Gautam Gambhir. There were five franchises who had settled captains - MS Dhoni for CSK, Steve Smith for Royals, David Warner for Sunrisers, Rohit Sharma for MI and KKR I imagine have some plans, which I'd no longer love to get into.

"Therefore, our possibility was once lovely easy. Once Ashwin was once picked by way of Kings XI Punjab, we always knew that we might go for Gautam," he explained.

At Rs 2.80 crore, Gambhir gave the impression a real deal for DD and Dua is not denying that.

"Yes, we did be expecting some bidding and in case you have seen Kings XI Punjab did bid for him. But we knew that we would have liked him in our staff."

Glenn Maxwell has been a maverick participant, who has blown hot and cold in the cash-rich league but the CEO is confident that Ponting is the person, who gets the most productive out of the Victoria dasher.

"We always wanted Maxwell and had a specific price range allotted for him as we had for each participant. Also we by no means had doubts about his possible as a match-winner. One will have to keep in mind before he turned into a star, the first IPL franchise to signal him up was once Daredevils. So it's like a homecoming for him," Dua mentioned.

"And Maxwell for me is like that boat whose sail needs to seize the wind to sail great distance ahead. For Maxwell, Ricky is the person, who can get the most productive out of him. We at Daredevils are lovely confident about it."

Dua, who has been the top of the staff control for the past five years, feels that rather than taking a look at Sandeep Lamichhane as first cricketer to bag an IPL contract from Nepal, one will have to purely look at him as an uncut diamond which may also be polished.

"Our assistant coach Sridharan Sriram (former India participant) and myself were provide when he had come for trials a few weeks again. That day it had rained in Delhi and we were set to conduct his trials at a ground in Dwarka. However due to in a single day rain, the pitch was once rainy," Dua fondly recalled.

"We then had no possibility however to take him to an Indoor Sports hub in Gurgaon. The other people available in the market weren't in a position to allow us use the balls taken by way of us because it was once there facility. We come what may controlled to convince them and made Sandeep bowl. We recorded it on our cellphones. He may just without problems flip the ball both tactics with an effective doosra," he mentioned.

"He was once first tracked during the Hong Kong Sixes match in Kowloon and in addition he was once impressive during the U-19 World Cup in Bangladesh in 2016. We by no means published our interest as we would have liked to get him discreetly no longer as a result of he is from Nepal however as a result of he is a talented cricketer," Dua concluded.
