Over 70 lakh devotees take dip in Sangam on Makar Sankranti

ALLAHABAD: Over 70 lakh devotees took a holy dip in Sangam on Makar Sankranti amid tight safety arrangements and a sunny weather on the Magh Mela campus on Sunday.
Allahabad district Justice of the Peace Suhas LY stated, "Devotees had started reaching Sangam since Saturday evening and started taking a dip as early 3:45am." He also stated that the float of devotees persevered till overdue evening and over 70 lakh had took a dip in Sangam, till the time this document went to press.

The DM also stated that the first snan passed off peacefully. On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, many devotees donated khichdi, laddoo or even cows. IG (Allahabad Range) Ramit Sharma stated, "Elaborate security arrangements were in place in view of the huge rush of devotees and senior police officials were also monitoring the situation. They also patrolled the Mela ground on foot to regulate the flow of the crowd."


The IG also stated, "The Mela police have made separate entry and exit paths so that there is no confusion." Many policemen had been observed guiding devotees who had been lost or didn't know about the separate go out paths. Adequate police power has been deployed on all 15 ghats and groups of ATS commandos, RAF and PAC maintained a strict watch on the venue.


People exchanged greetings and performed ritual associated with Makar Sankranti in more than a few spaces of the city as neatly. On Makar Sankranti, devotees change til (sesame), jaggery, groundnuts and gajak. The day may be thought to be the start of an auspicious segment in Indian culture, referred to as the 'holy segment of transition.


Mela police officers extra other folks can be visiting Sangam on Monday, for which further police forces had been deployed.


Locals also took to flying kites in and round Mela campus, as is the tradition on Makar Sankranti. Shopkeepers had been observed selling an eclectic selection of vibrant kites in numerous sizes and styles on Sunday.
