12-hour bandh called by tribal committee begins in Nagaland

KOHIMA: A 12-hour bandh known as by means of the Core Committee of Nagaland Tribal Hohos and Civil Organisations (CCNTHCO) began in parts of Nagaland on Thursday amidst tight safety.
The bandh has been known as against an official notification for the February 27 assembly poll regardless of a basic appeal for resolution of the Naga political problem before the elections.

While the bandh was being peacefully enforced in a minimum of 5 districts, some tribal bodies determined not to reinforce the it in six districts.

The core committee mentioned the decision to name the bandh was taken at a meeting of the entire apex tribal hohos and mass-based organisations on January 29. The committee mentioned in a free up the decision was unanimously taken by means of all concerned and therefore it could move ahead as resolved.

"The very purpose of this bandh is in pursuance of the resolutions adopted collectively that Nagas prefer to have solution first rather than election now," it mentioned. Some apex tribal bodies, together with Angami Public Organisation (APO), Eastern Nagaland Public Organisation (ENPO) and Lotha Hoho, weren't imposing the bandh.

An APO remark had mentioned on Wednesday no bandh would be allowed inside Angami-inhabited areas and requested the people no longer to take part.

ENPO chief David Thingchem had mentioned the organisation would no longer impose any bandh inside its jurisdiction overlaying Mon, Tuensang, Kiphire and Longleng districts.

The Lotha Hoho also determined not to reinforce the bandh in Wokha district. Meanwhile, officers within the police and election department mentioned elaborate safety preparations have been in place to thwart any untoward incident.
