2nd Meghnad Saha memorial international symposium commences at AU

ALLAHABAD: The 2nd Meghnad Saha memorial global symposium-cum-workshop on Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (MMISLIBS-II 2018) started with offering tribute to Prof Meghnad Saha at the Department of Physics of Allahabad University, on Monday. Prof Saha was once the founding father of the dept.

The chief guest Prof Robert Fedosejevs from the University of Alberta, Canada deliberated in detail about using micro LIBS from small human cellular to asteroids. He highlighted using LIBS in the detection of water, pond water etc. and highlighted using LIBS as fingerprinting via understanding the focus of sodium & silicon.

The guest of honour Prof Shiva Umapathy, recipient of Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar Award and from IISc Bangalore right through his inaugural lecture discussed the femtosecond laser Raman spectroscopy for the early detection of cancer job in the human frame. He also discussed the analysis associated with septic that the options of the septic can also be diagnosed at an early stage the use of Raman Spectroscopy. He also discussed a method in keeping with Raman Spectroscopy by which it's possible to discover any explosive liquid in a bottle.

In the second technical session, Prof Paul Veis from Slovakia discussed using LIBS in the classification of meteorites. Prof SB Rai for BHU discussed the addition and department of photon in the strategy of upconversion and down conversion. The utility of which is getting used for boosting the efficiency of sun cells.

Dr Pradeep Ok Rai, senior marketing consultant nephrologist, Opal Hospital Varanasi introduced the analysis in keeping with LIBS of kidney stones samples. Depending upon the presence of components it's possible to prescribed medications for preventing the expansion of the kidney stones. Dr Rai also discussed tips on how to prevent for having kidney stones.

In presidential deal with, officiating VC of AU, Prof KS Mishra favored the enchantment made via chief guest and guest of honour for the advance of Indian Raman Spectrometer.

During poster and oral periods, the other titles associated with LIBS, Laser Ablated Plasma, Nanomaterials and other spectroscopic ways have been introduced via young researchers of the dept, informed the convener of the symposium, Prof AK Rai of the dept.
