Coimbatore: Scores of villagers near Sulur had been made to pose for photos as beneficiaries of the central govt’s Swachh Bharat mission in front of bathrooms they didn't own; grant for the scheme operating to a number of lakhs of rupees was allegedly pocketed through panchayat officials.
The record uploaded on the Swachh Bharat mission web page says 158 bathrooms had been built at Okay Madhapur village near Sulur in 2015-16. The central govt had given a grant of Rs 12,000 to construct each and every bathroom. But a talk over with through TOI to the village published that most of the villagers who had been mentioned as beneficiaries had no bathrooms built at all. Activists say lower than 50 bathrooms had been built all over the length, though the grant for the rest of the bathrooms were received.
The pictures of beneficiaries in front of the bathrooms uploaded through the panchayat officials on the central govt web page obviously unearths that the villagers had been made to pose in front of the similar bathroom, however had been shown as different ones to claim the grant.
Three villagers indexed as beneficiaries told TOI that they had been made to pose in front of same bathroom. One individual, who was now not even a resident of Okay Madhapur, however had come there to meet a relative, was made to pose in front of a bathroom as a beneficiary.
The scamsters who comprised panchayat officials, local politicians and a few citizens who acted as middlemen, had also repainted bathrooms - built years ago through some villagers on their own - with the Swachh Bharat logo to claim the central grant.
Block construction officer Jayashree stated she had gained proceedings bringing up 40 such bathrooms and she or he had stalled their payments. “We will inspect the village and make sure all such discrepancies are got rid of,” she stated.
Project director of the district rural construction agency (DRDA) Ruban Sankar Raj stated that they're going to behavior a radical probe.
