Cabinet approves electrification, lines doubling projects for NCR

ALLAHABAD: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has authorized 4250 Km-long Jhansi-Manikpur and Bhimsen-Khairar strains doubling and electrification projects at a crowning glory price of Rs 4955.72 crore.

Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO, North Central Railways (NCR), GK Bansal said those projects usually are finished by 2022-23. The projects will cover the districts of Jhansi, Mahoba, Banda, Chitrakut Dham in Uttar Pradesh and Chhatarpur in Madhya Pradesh.

The present line capability utilisation of Jhansi-Khairar, Khairar-Manikpur and Khairar-Bhimsen is 126%, 160% and 107% respectively, which leads to congestion and sluggish motion of trains.

The doubling will provide for simple motion of trains going or coming from Jhansi, Kanpur and Allahabad with none stoppage for crossing of trains of wrong way. It will support punctuality of passenger trains and easy working on the routes of Jhansi-Satna and Kanpur-Satna. It may even lend a hand in higher protection through improved availability for repairs blocks. It may even lead to total development of Bundelkhand region, he added.

It is also noted that DFC (Dedicated Freight Corridor) connectivity will probably be close to Bhimsen. Thus, this route may even act as a feeder route of DFC and lend a hand in economic and business development through swift motion of goods particularly agricultural produce to consumer areas, and to ports for export.

Likewise, the cement cluster in Satna and infrastructure sector will probably be any other primary beneficiary from this development through smoother motion of cement.

It may even support connectivity to Khajuraho which is a global vacationer vacation spot. This may even result in economic prosperity and employment opportunities through tourism in the region.

Electrification will result in sooner trains, lowered carbon emissions and promotion of sustainable setting. Further, it is going to reduce fuel import dependence and lead to power costs savings for Railways and foreign exchange savings for the country.

In addition, those projects will generate direct employment during building of about 102 lakh mandays, informed CPRO.
