Assam to approach Centre on ST status to six communities: CM Sarbanda Sonowal

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal nowadays confident representatives of six communities that he would take in with the Centre the issue of granting Scheduled Tribe status to them.

Sonowal instructed the representatives of the communities - Moran, Muttock, Koch Rajbongshi, Tai Ahom, Chutia and Tea Tribes - that his govt has accorded significance to their demands.


"Close on the heels of the earlier stand for endorsing demands of the six communities for ST status, government is also committed to push the demand for early disposal of the issue," the CM stated.


He also mooted the speculation of putting in of a committee consisting of representatives of the communities to verify seamless communication.
