Panaji: Around Rs 600 crore collected below Goa Iron Ore Permanent Fund (GIOPF) and Goa District Mineral Fund (GDMF) is collecting dust as no longer a unmarried paisa has been spent for the welfare of the folk from the mining belt.
Under GIOPF, the state govt has collected Rs 419.65 crore, while below GDMF Rs 177.65 crore has been collected.
Recently, the state govt has constituted a committee to finalise the plans to utilise the funds, however till date no longer a unmarried assembly has been held.
Section 9B of the Mines and Mineral (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2015, states that the leaseholder must give a contribution 30% of the royalty paid for mining leases granted earlier than January 12, 2015, to the GDMF.
As in line with the Supreme Court order, 10% of the sale proceeds of iron ore excavated within the state of Goa and bought by way of the lessees must be appropriated against the GIOPF for the aim of sustainable building and inter-generational fairness.
Mines division resources mentioned the government wants to spend around Rs 25 lakh from GDMF to install water taps at Sonshi. “As of now, no longer a unmarried assembly has been held to talk about the spending of GDMF.
